CG CAT (2009)
Dual channel video installation, 14 min. loop; excerpted simulation above
Speech synthesis software is fed the letters for the first chromosome of a human DNA sample (A,T,C,G). However, the computer pronounces the letters phonetically instead of
reciting them as independent letters (code), creating a 14 minute long chant to incant the name of DNA.
The video depicts four images from American Sign Language hand gestures for the letters A,T,C, and G appearing as they occur in the audio and relating them to the four basic
digits on the hand. At play is a definition of "digital" as it relates to the body and to language.
CG CAT is displayed in two channels and arranged to form a double helix structure when projected.
