multichannel video
14 min. loop
A computer speech synthesis program is fed the base pairs (A,C,T or G) for a human DNA sample. Quite literally, the software reads the code phonetically instead of by individual letter creating a chant to "incant the name of the genetic code". The accompanying video shows the American Sign Language signs for the letters in the code as they appear at a rapid fie pace. As the video proceeds, the images multiply, mirror and divide in an approximation of a double helix structure.
